Cable Beach Greenbacks women's team headed to WKFL grand final after defeating Broome Towns

The Cable Beach women’s team will move on to the WKFL grand final after defeating Broome Towns at Haynes Oval on Saturday afternoon. It was another tight match up, with both teams within one goal of each other for the majority of the match. Broome Towns got off to an early lead kicking the first goal of the match in the first term while the Cable Beach side missed their opportunity at the goal square, scoring just one behind for the first quarter to trail 1.0 (6) to 0.1 (1) at the break. The Greenbacks hit their mark in the second quarter though managing to nail a goal and another behind but they were matched by Towns who also slotted a goal and a behind with the score 2.1 (13) to 1.2 (8) at half-time. Towns then failed to score in the third term while Cable Beach managed to get a couple of shots at the big sticks, which they missed, resulting in two behinds which put them just three points behind Towns 2.1 (13) to 1.4 (10) at the final break. Cable Beach’s accuracy improved in the last quarter with the team scoring two goals while the Towns failed to score again, handing the Greenbacks the win by nine points, 3.4 (22) to 2.1 (13). Cable Beach now moves on to the grand final like their male counterparts while Broome Towns will have to win the preliminary final to secure their spot. The Broome Bulls also move on to the preliminary final after eliminating the Peninsula Bombers from the competition at Haynes Oval on Saturday morning. Despite the Bombers’ best efforts the Bulls proved themselves to be the better team, scoring three more goals than their opponents and securing themselves the win by 21 points, 7.6 (48) to 4.3 (27).
