Despite a late scare, the Bullets toppled the Old Girls last Friday to become the Broome Netball division 1 champions.

From the outset, it was clear both teams were determined to work up an early lead and shut down their opposition.

In a very fast-paced opening to the match, it was an incredibly even contes,t with the Old Girls building up a narrow lead, while the Bullets were hot on their tail.

Thanks to goal shooter Joanne Johnson, Bullets were able to take over late in the quarter to lead by just one point at the first break.

The Bullets began to extend their lead in the second quarter as the match’s fast pace continued.

Passing inaccuracies soon began to cost the Old Girls, although they were able to shake it off to only suffer a four-point deficit at half-time.

After the main break, the Bullets continued to extend their lead despite valiant efforts in defence by Old Girls’ Rebecca Boni.

However, it seemed there was a sense of deja vu when the Old Girls began to come back late in the quarter to keep the margin at six points at three-quarter-time.

It was another close contest in the final quarter, with both teams swapping goals thanks to Johnson, Mili Ledgerwood, Christie Milenkovic and Corryne Burnett. However, the Bullets began to amp up the pressure in the closing minutes of the match to hold on and take home the premiership with the final score at 46-42, ending the season with a bang.

Elsewhere, Flames smashed Broomies 61-24 to win the division 2 grand final, Bullets defeated Jija Bops to win the division 3 premiership, and the Crouching Tigers held off the Scorchers to win the division 4 grand final.
