Four of Broome’s brightest soccer stars travelled more than 2000km to represent Football West in a regional State tournament earlier this month. The Football West Regional State Team Camp welcomed Darcy Chapman, 14, Campbell Knox, 16, Charli Price, 15 and Ayanna Otaola, 14, to Perth to participate in elite training and a special tournament between November 1 and 7. The camp provided select regional players the opportunity to participate in four days of intensive skill training and a three-day tournament against a selection of WA Metro State, Perth Glory and Northern Territory State teams. The week-long camp would usually take place in Singapore against international youth teams, but due to COVID-19, the tournament was replicated in Perth this year. Broome Soccer Association president Tom Hulse said the tournament was a fantastic learning experience for the youngsters. “We are very proud of these talented players, each of them performed amazingly during the tournament, against high class opposition,” he said. The young athletes were recognised by the player’s selection as being among the best junior players in regional WA.
