Broome triathletes compete for supremacy in final club event for 2023
Nearly 40 gung-ho triathletes gathered at Cable Beach on November 12 for the seventh and last event for the Broome Triathlon Club for the 2023 season.
The 39 participants competed in both the individual and team duathlon events with the choice of either a short course or a long course.
In the primary school aged boys division short course, Henry Hedley crossed the line first with a time of 13 minutes and 46 seconds, followed by Zac Harris (14min 31sec) Matt Smallshaw (14 min 42sec) and William Hedley (15 min 3 sec).
In the open division short course, Alex Harris was first in 17 minutes and 4 seconds.
In the primary school aged boys long course Tate Beatty came in first in 26 minutes and 39 seconds.
In the secondary school aged boys long course, Josh Smallshaw crossed the finish line first in 27 minutes and 43 seconds, followed by Kael Nunn just a second behind, with Theo Ferns third on (30 min 34 sec) and Benji Forster fourth (31 min 7 sec).
In the open male long course, Travis Campbell came in first in 26 minutes and 39 seconds.
In the primary school aged girls short course, Neve Grant crossed the finish line first in 15 minutes and 25 seconds followed by Grace Larkman (15 min 52 sec).
In the senior female long course, Matilda Beatty came first in 30 minutes and 59 seconds.
In the juniors teams event, Olive Longo and Aaron Andrews placed first in 13 minutes and 12 seconds while Codi Nunn, Dervla Ferns and Casper Nunn placed second (15 min 46 sec).
Lenny Geodecke and Charlie Caiolfa came third with 12 minutes and 26 seconds on the clock, while Heidi Harris and Isabelle Hedley were fourth (18 min 49 sec).
In the mixed division team event, Will and Tom Ward crossed the finish line first in 12 minutes and three seconds, while Jude and Shanan Burns came in second (13 min 57 sec).
In the ladies open team division, Broome Triathlon Club president Jo Smallshaw and Jen Ward came first, completing the course in 14 minutes and 44 seconds, with Lindsey Nunn and Carolyn Hutton second (15 min 7 sec) and Naomi Brown and Fran Longo third (15 min 19 sec).
In the open long course team division, Sean Campbell and Tom Chaloner came out on top with a time of 26 minutes and 25 seconds.
After the event, three club champions from the season were selected with Lachie Forster taking the first place club champion and Richard Harraway and Josh Smallshaw sharing the second place champion title.
