Broome teens to compete in national touch championships on Sunshine Coast

Three promising teenage touch footballers from Broome will soon be heading off to the Sunshine Coast to compete in a nationwide tournament. Sixteen-year-olds Safie Matthews and Diesel Babington and 14-year-old Fletcher Moase will represent WA on the national stage after being selected for Touch Football WA’s Championship squad. The Touch Football Australia DoorDash National Youth Championships puts the most talented and promising young touch footballers in the country head to head to test and hone their skills. More than 100 other junior touch football teams from across the country will compete in the under 12, 14, 16 and 18 years of age and gender divisions. This year marks the 30th anniversary of the national youth championships and will see the largest participation in the tournament since its inception. Broome Touch Association president Chris Channing said it was a big moment for the young touch footballers who had worked hard to be selected for the WA team. “It is huge news to have three representatives from Broome chosen to compete at a national level,” he said. “Broome Touch Association couldn’t be prouder of the trio’s talent and dedication. “Under the guidance of tour leader Jeremy Wallace and Touch Football WA, we know they’ll be a huge asset to the team and do the whole Broome community enormously proud.” The Touch Football Australia DoorDash National Youth Championships will run from September 28 to October 1 at Sunshine Coast Stadium. It will be livestreamed for free on Kayo Sports.
