Broome Taekwondo’s new kick-boxing competition, the Tatami Cup, set for March

Broome Taekwondo is launching its very first kick-boxing tournament to take place this March, with plans to make the competition an annual fixture on Broome’s sporting calender.
The Tatami Cup will have two rings with fights running simultaneously for non-stop action, with multiple clubs from different disciplines vying for glory.
Fighters will compete across 12 divisions in contact and point sparring with the competition open to all age groups.
A longest flying side kick and highest jumping front kick event for juniors, youths and seniors is also set for the tournament, which will take place on March 25.
Featuring martial artists from several different disciplines including muay thai, kick-boxing, karate, kung-fu, jeet kune do and taekwondo, the competitors will come together to fight under the same kick-boxing rule set.
Excited about the potential of the new tournament, Taekwondo Broome head coach and Tatami Cup organiser Rob McGregor said the competition will be an exhilarating challenge for Broome’s dedicated martial arts community.
“It’s a great way for all our members to get a chance of experiencing competition and we encourage everyone to sign up and support this new event,” he said.
Taking place at Broome Civic Centre, tickets will be available at the door with food and drinks also available for purchase during the event.
The new tournament is part of the Broome Taekwondo’s expansion in 2023 with the club also creating a new “Fight Squad” for members who want to compete on the national and potentially international stage.
