Broome Senior High School building tops new WA tourism magnet to claim best regional project award

A recent redevelopment at Broome Senior High School has been recognised as the best regional project in the 2021 Master Builders Awards, beating the highly regarded Kalbarri Skywalk. The work included a two-storey state-of-the-art general library and technology block and was completed within a 60-week time frame while the 800-student school was kept open and operational. Also part of the work was the addition of new chemistry labs, 13 new classrooms, a reconfigured carpark, and a new cultural space and yarning circle to host Indigenous cultural ceremonies. Master Builders judge Charlie Baggetta said the builder faced a complex challenge during the construction phase with the school needing to remain open. “Crothers Construction used a variety of materials throughout the construction, which presented challenges. However, the skills of the builder, subcontractors and trades resulted in the completion of an outstanding facility for the Broome community,” he said. Two-thirds of the subcontractors were sourced locally in Broome. Crothers Construction also won the best aged care building in the $5 million to $10m category for the Bedingfield Park expansion project in Pinjarra.
