Broome residents flock to secure sold-out security subsidy spots
A Shire of Broome security incentive which offered residents hundreds of dollars in subsidies for security equipment has closed, less than 24 hours after it opened, with all allocated spots filled.
The rebate saw the Shire offer to cover 50 per cent of the cost of buying security products, or 75 per cent for seniors and healthcare card holders, with a maximum reimbursement of $275.
CCTV cameras, home alarms, door deadlocks, window locks, security lights and screens were all eligible for the rebate.
First launched in August, $25,000 was allocated to the scheme, with spots filling within two months.
On December 2, the scheme was re-opened after initial applicants failed to submit claims.
Some 40 applications were received in less than 24 hours for the December round, filling all re-opened spots.
