Broome police respond to more than 2700 incidents since start of 2024

Broome police have responded to a staggering 2742 incidents since the beginning of 2024, according to figures released by the Broome Police Station. Police have arrested and charged 192 individuals with a total of 343 offences and executed 20 search warrants, while an additional 103 people have been summonsed and charged with 159 offences. Among the offences were 86 cases of stealing and 69 burglaries, indicating a significant concern for property-related crimes in the area. Additionally, authorities seized and destroyed 292 litres of alcohol and issued 61 liquor infringements as part of their efforts to combat alcohol-related issues within the community. Broome Officer-in-Charge Sen. Sgt Courtney Solly said it had been a “very busy start” to the year. “I’d like to wish all residents and visitors to Broome a safe and prosperous 2024; but please help us by locking up, reporting suspicious behaviour and being kind to our hard-working team,” she said. It comes as Broome and the Kimberley continue to grapple with an alcohol-fuelled crime crisis, resulting in WA Police sending additional resources to the region through Operation Regional Shield.
