Broome man sentenced to four years jail and fined more than $2000 for reckless car chase involving ex-partner

A Broome man has been sentenced to four years jail, had his license disqualified for almost four years and fined more than $2000 after embarking on a reckless car chase through the streets of Broome. Shaun Ehrin Manado faced Broome Magistrates Court on July 19, charged over an incident which saw him chase his ex-partner and best friend across town, believing they were sleeping together behind his back. The court heard Manado was driving a Holden Commodore on Gubinge Road when he spotted the pair travelling in a green Holden Barina in the opposite direction in November 2019. Turning his vehicle around, the court heard Manado then pursued the pair until he caught up and rammed into the back of their vehicle which caused them to stop driving and pull over. While assessing the damage, it was heard the pair were abused by Manado, causing them to get back into their vehicle and drive away from the scene. The court heard Manado then continued his pursuit, during which CCTV captured the Barina as it slid off the road and slammed into a road sign near a local petrol station. It was heard Manado was “relentless” as he then deliberately drove at speed into the passenger side door of the stationary vehicle, causing it to tip onto its side. The court heard no one was injured during the ordeal. In the District Court, Manado was sentenced to four years’ jail, eligible for parole in December this year. Facing the Magistrates Court, Manado had his license disqualified for three years and nine months for reckless driving and no authority to drive. Manado was also fined $2000 for the driving charges and received an additional fine of $200 for being in the possession of cannabis.
