Broome man Luke McEwan pleads guilty to assault of five Broome police officers, escaping custody
A 42-year-old Broome man has pleaded guilty to assaulting five police officers — leaving one injured — and escaping custody during a violent outburst in September.
Appearing in Broome Magistrates Court on October 10, Luke McEwan was read a raft of charges relating to the September 27 incident, in which he assaulted five officers and escaped lawful custody.
McEwan pleaded guilty to five counts of assaulting a public officer and one count of escaping from lawful custody.
The incident occurred after McEwan was taken into custody on separate charges.
McEwan’s council requested an adjournment to conduct a psychological assessment, which they said would take eight weeks to complete.
Magistrate Anthony Sullivan granted the adjournment, with the matter set to front court again on December 5.
