A Broome fisherman put on quite a show at Town Beach foreshore last week, reeling in a massive fish from his boat and guiding it to shore as onlookers watched on in awe. In a post made to a local Facebook community group, a video shows an unknown fisherman hauling an enormous Queensland groper toward the beach as his boat leans dangerously close to the side. After climbing out of the boat, the fisherman is seen unhooking the fishing line from the gentle beast to release as children come by to lend him a helping hand and pose for photos. The Queensland Groper - a protected species that cannot be taken - can weigh in at 400kg and reach up to 2.7m long. Broome locals previously seen the groper lurk in the shadows under Town Beach Jetty, where recreational fishing is a popular pastime.
