One of Broome’s rising martial arts stars has returned home with the gold after competing in a State tournament.

Tj Anderson from Broome Mixed Martial Arts took out the win on July 23 in his division at the WAJJC State Championships in Perth. The tournament matches up the best jiujitsu fighters from across WA over one day of competition.

This isn’t the first time Anderson has returned home with the gold however, with the teenager coming away with eight gold medals from the ATI inter-club Mixed Martial Arts competition held in Perth on October 21 and 22 last year.

The seasoned competitor, who was 13 to 0 on points before he snuffed out his opponent with a submission, said he had no doubt he would win.

“I didn’t get the take down because I was stuck in guard but once I managed to get out of guard I got my points up and then finished the fight,” Anderson said.

While down in Perth, Anderson also had the opportunity to train with multi International Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Federation world champion, Thalison Soares, who shared his world-class skills with the Broome product.

Ben Sanford, who has been training with BMMA while travelling the tourist town, also came away with a silver in his division in his first ever martial arts competition.

Anderson is now preparing for the 2023 AJJC Australian National Championships held in Melbourne on August 26 and 27.
