Broome driveway death: Linton Patrick Sampi faces court over driveway death of his partner

A cousin of former West Coast Eagle Ashley Sampi has been charged over the horrific death of a woman in Broome after she was allegedly run over and killed outside her home by her partner. Linton Patrick Sampi, 41, appeared in Broome Magistrates Court on Friday morning charged with dangerous driving occasioning death while under the influence of alcohol. It is alleged Linton Sampi got behind the wheel of his Holden Epica in the driveway of his D’Antoine Street home around 12.30am on Thursday and struck his partner Candice Shea. Ms Shea, who was in her 30s, died at the scene. In court on Friday, Mr Sampi’s lawyer made a bail application which was accepted on the condition he be removed from Broome. The magistrate accepted the bail application also under the condition Mr Sampi not make contact with alleged witnesses while the police conduct their investigation. He will face court again on May 3. The West Australian has confirmed 41-year-old Mr Sampi is a cousin of former high-flying Eagle Ashley Sampi. Ashley Sampi played 78 games for the Eagles over four years and kicked 97 goals for the club. He is best known for an incredible pack mark he took at the MCG against Melbourne in 2004 - a grab which won him the coveted mark of the year award that season. Ashley Sampi declined to comment when contacted by telephone on Friday. St John Ambulance confirmed it was called to the scene just before 12.30am on Thursday but there was nothing paramedics could do for the woman. Major crash squad officers from Perth were also called to the scene to help investigate.
