Broome Cup’s Fashions on the Field wows crowds as Barbie-inspired contestants take to the stage

It was all heels on deck for the grand finale of the Broome Turf Club’s Fashions on the Field event over the weekend, with the best frocks and fascinators taking to the stage for one last time. Drawing in thousands of punters and fashion lovers on August 19, the Broome Cup sought out their own contestants, with fashion officials searching through the crowds for the best-dressed. Fifteen contestants wore a selection of pastels, florals, pinks and patterned dresses as they strutted across the runway for a chance to win pieces by sponsors Willie Creek Pearls. Coming in third, the blonde beauty Jade Cousins twirled in her blue-and-white strapless gown paired with a blue orchid headpiece, wowing the panel and taking home a stunning rose gold Australian South Sea cultured pearl pendant. Following closely second, Nadira Moss graced the stage with confidence in her blue-and-gold mid-length attire, tirelessly colour-coordinating each piece and earning her white gold Australian South Sea cultured pearl and Diamond pendant. Pretty-in-pink Mel Blight won the top prize of an 18K yellow gold Australian South Sea cultured pearl and diamond pendant with her elegant puff-sleeved ensemble topped off with a custom-made fascinator. Speaking to the Broome Advertiser about her win, Ms Blight said her outfit was inspired by the blockbuster movie Barbie and said she loved participating in Fashions on the Field. “It’s just a fun group of girls, we love coming together at the races,” she said. “It’s a great way to make friends!”
