Broome Barracudas claim major wins at Kimberley Open Short Course swimming competition
The Broome Barracudas swimming club wrapped up their annual Kimberley Short Course swimming competition at the weekend with several Broome young guns making the top of their class.
Two Broome swimmers, Jasper Barnett, 13, and Tate Beatty, 13, claimed the title of intermediate female and male swimmers of the meet while Broome Barracudas’ Matilda Beatty, 15, and Westside Christchurch Aquatic’s Lochlan Penegar, 17, won the senior female and male swimmers of the meet.
Broome Barracudas’ Nate Andrews, 10, and Onslow Occys Swimming Club’s Oliver Keilly, 11, tied for the title of junior male swimmer of the meet, while Fenix Swimming Club’s Bianca Pritchard, 11, took out the junior female swimmer of the meet title.
Broome Barracudas president Melita Grant said this years’ competition was another resounding success.
“We had a great competition,” she said.
“We had 90 swimmers and about 10 splash and dash young kids competing and several national swimmers, so the competition was top class.
“A huge thanks to our generous sponsors for their lane, medal, trophy and marshalling sponsorship and also to our generous raffle sponsors.
“Thanks to Deb Jones from Fenix Swim Club who ran a breaststroke and butterfly clinic and thanks to all of our committee and officials for many hours of work organising and running the comp.”
The competition also held a raffle, with Catherine Gale taking home the first prize of a new iPhone 16, while Emily Pollard won second prize of a Lifestyle pack. Sara Anderson won the third-prize fishing pack and Kelly Ford won the fourth-place swimming pack.
The competition ran over three days from September 27 to 29.
