Broome athletics star Annabella Thompson returns with silver medal from Singapore comp
Broome’s rising athletics star, Annabella Thompson, has once again returned home triumphantly, with a medal around her neck after competing in Singapore.
Representing the WA Athletics Junior International team, Thompson clinched a silver medal in the U15s Girls’ 1kg discus event at the 28th International Athletics Championships held in Singapore on July 8 to 9.
Thompson’s remarkable performance adds to the overall success of the WA team, which left their mark on the competition by securing an impressive 48 medals, including 20 gold.
The WA team showcased their prowess particularly in the field events, with some outstanding performances.
Sophie William captured a remarkable five gold medals, displaying her exceptional skills across multiple disciplines.
Lauren Kelly’s prowess was equally commendable as she secured two gold medals and an additional bronze.
Wyatt Hill emerged as a stand out performer, amassing a total of five medals, including one silver and four bronze.
Meanwhile, Harry Gordon impressed onlookers by claiming three bronze medals during the Singapore Meet.
Several other WA athletes also contributed to the team’s outstanding performance with Sean Cregan, Fujiko Mackay, and Isabelle Curtis all securing well-deserved silver medals.
Curtis further demonstrated her versatility and determination by also capturing an additional silver and a bronze medal.
It comes after Thompson was nominated and was selected as a finalist for the 7News WA Young Achievers Awards in the Surge fitness sports award category back in May.
