A number of promising young Broome athletes have shone bright at the 2022 WA Little Athletics State Championships, ranking in the top few youngsters in their respective disciplines.

Held from March 4 to March 6, seven Broome athletes attended the meet after securing their spot off-the-back of stand-out performances in the country champs.

Competing in from under 9s to under 14s, Kayleigh Howard, Max Mitchell, Chad Ford, Spencer Groenenberg, Neve Grant, Annabella Thompson and Jonni Ockerby all smashed their personal bests and landed themselves among the top 10 athletes in WA for their age groups and events.

Max Mitchell was the only Broome athlete to stand on the podium with an impressive silver in under 11s high jump, while Chad Ford and Annabella Thompson just missed out on silverware.

The athletes will now look forward to the start of the athletics season in May and work hard to compete in the NW Regional Athletics Championship, due to be held in Broome in September.
