Peninsula Bombers defeat Broome Bulls in dour West Kimberley footy clash

Spectators at the women’s clash between the Bulls and the Bombers clash could have been forgiven for thinking they were watching a soccer game at the half-time siren, with a one-nil scoreline at the main break. The Broome Bulls managed to slip through a behind in the second term in their round seven clash with the Peninsula Bombers at Father McMahon Oval, which proved to be the only scoring shot of the first half. Both teams were unable to land a shot on goal for the first quarter, and the second quarter appeared to follow the same path before the Bulls finally got the scoreboard ticking over. The third quarter proved a little more fruitful, with the Bombers slotting three behinds in quarter to gain the lead 0.3 (3) to 0.1 (1). Bomber Francina Martin scored the first goal of the match Bombers midway through the final quarter, followed soon after by Bulls’ Kian Fancote in her return from injury. The Bombers scored another point before the final siren to seal the deal, winning 1.4 (10) to Broome Bulls 1.1 (7). On Saturday morning, the Saints Football Club took on the Bidyadanga Emus Football Club at Haynes Oval in an exciting clash which saw the tables turn in favour of the Emus. Charging into the first quarter of the game, the Saints took three accurate shots on goal placing them well in the lead, while the Emus managed to score just three points. The tables turned in the second quarter, after the Emus stormed back to score four goals and a point, while keeping the Saints to a single point. A scoreless third quarter for the Saints saw the Emus gain a massive lead, after Naomi Tumbler scored another two goals in five minutes. The Emus rounded out the game with a comfortable 6.8 (44) to 3.3 (21) win. Ladder leaders Cable Beach travelled to Derby on Saturday, where they again proved too strong with a resounding 76-point win against the Tigers, taking out the match in convincing fashion 13.4 (82) to 1.0 (6). The last game of the round was close, Towns and the Looma Eagles ending up a two-point ball game. Looma Eagles won 6.2 (38) to Towns 5.6 (36), but it could have been a different result had Towns been more accurate in front of goal. Round eight of the competition will kick off on Friday night with a much-anticipated clash between the Broome Bulls and Cable Beach Greenbacks at Father McMahon Oval at 6.15pm.
