Broome Barracudas have started the year on the right foot after achieving personal bests and winning medals at a recent swimming meet in Perth.

The successful club sent 10 of its competitors to take part in the Swimming WA Country Championships at HBF Stadium.

The squad might have travelled the farthest but they managed to take home two gold medals, eight silver and four bronze. They also secured a total of 58 personal best times across their 76 swims.

Their efforts also included winning an exciting men’s open 4x50m freestyle relay.

The success did not stop there, with squad members Sean Campbell, Travis Campbell and Lochlan Penegar recognised as stand-out achievers.

At the same time, three other swimmers competed in the Long Course Rookies Meet, where they amassed 11 personal bests, six gold medals, one silver and one bronze.

Barracudas president Mark Hubbard said it was great to see the families of the athletes get “really passionate” about the event and continue training during the Christmas period.

“The kids were all really excited in the pool leading up to the meet and it was great to see their hard work pay off with so many PBs and medals being achieved,” he said.

“Because of their efforts, we also managed to rank fifth overall out of 26 clubs that competed, which is a very impressive feat.”
