Former police officer Beau Lamarre-Condon allegedly disguised himself as an Uber Eats driver before he murdered his ex-boyfriend and the man’s new partner, a jury has been told.
Mr Lamarre-Condon is accused of murdering his former boyfriend Jesse Baird, along with Mr Baird’s new boyfriend Luke Davies, at a home in Paddington, Sydney in February 2024.
He is further accused of breaking into the home in August 2023 and committing “larceny” of Mr Baird’s mobile phone and wallet.
The former police officer has entered pleas of not guilty to all charges, with his trial before the Supreme Court of NSW starting on Monday.
Mr Lamarre-Condon allegedly “developed an infatuation and obsession with Jesse Baird which manifested itself in a range of compulsive behaviour”, Crown prosecutor Brett Hatfield SC told the jury during empanelment on Monday.
His alleged behaviour “escalated” when Mr Baird ended all contact with Mr Lamarre-Condon in November 2023.
He allegedly began planning Mr Baird’s murder in early 2024 and took a series of steps, including investigating how to conceal the sound of gunfire and retaining his police pistol “when he had no need to be using it”, Mr Hatfield told the jury.
On February 19, 2024, Mr Lamarre-Condon allegedly dressed as an Uber Eats rider - wearing a motorcycle helmet - and entered Mr Baird’s home using a key he “surreptitiously obtained”, the jury was told.
He is accused of shooting Mr Baird in his kitchen before going to a bedroom, where he allegedly shot Mr Davies.
Mr Hatfield said the former police officer allegedly accessed Mr Baird’s phone in the months prior and deleted and blocked people on the device.
The jury has now been empaneled, with Mr Hatfield expected to deliver his opening address on Monday afternoon.
Mr Lamarre-Condon was brought into court wearing a grey suit, white shirt and tie.
Family members of both Mr Baird and Mr Davies arrived at court for the trial on Monday morning.
The trial comes more than two years after the alleged murders.
