Walls covered in cowboy hats, horse shoes, cacti and a beloved bull called Bruce has helped Albany’s Wild West Bowling win its second major hospitality award last week.

Wild West Bowling won the best themed venue category at the Australian Hotels Association and Coca-Cola Hospitality Awards for Excellence on October 12.

This is the second year in a row that Wild West Bowling has claimed this award.

The awards celebrate the best of WA’s hospitality industry, recognising outstanding venues, people and experiences across categories including leadership, service, culinary excellence and innovation.

Wild West operations manager Sammy Kennedy said it was the group of people involved that won them the award this year.

“This year was the first time that we took our crew up and realised it’s the people that bring the theme to life,” she said.

“Each of our crew are characters in our stories.

“Winning the themed venue was bigger this year not because of the decor, but the people as well.”

Ms Kennedy said a main attraction for visitors was their mascot and logo, Brucey Brahman the bull.

“I think a massive draw card is Brucey Brahman, our famous pet bull,” she said.

“He has thousands of followers on Facebook, it’s random but he is the star of the show — his head is in the middle of our logo.

“We have had people from Switzerland and all over the world come because they have seen Brucey on social media.

“A lot of businesses use influencers and here we are using our pet bull who promotes the country lifestyle and our business.”

Ms Kennedy said Wild West Bowling is a great entertainment option for people of all ages living in Albany.

“There’s not many options for entertainment in Albany so Wild West is good,” she said.

“Bowling is great because it’s for everyone — grandparents, kids, people with disabilities, adults and school groups.”
