Swimmers have been urged to take extra caution when entering the water at Middleton Beach as Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development staff investigate a partial outage of the shark enclosure network.
DPIRD issued a shark advice alert at 12.45pm on Sunday after the receiver at the Ellen Cove shark monitoring network went offline.
The advice remains in place as of 11am on Monday as officers investigate the receiver outage and work to restore it.
The receiver detects movement from tagged sharks which is then reported to authorities such as Surf Life Saving WA, WA Police and local government rangers.
DPIRD cites a technical fault as the reason for the outage.
The shark net receiver was not the only piece of infrastructure at Ellen Cove damaged on Sunday, as the beloved pontoon broke from its moorings within the net and drifted to shore due to wild winds and swells.
Further information will be released on the SharkSmart website, SharkSmart WA app or via @SLSWA on X.
