Manypeaks and Mt Barker took the long route to Saturday’s Retravision A-grade grand finals by winning their preliminary finals last week.

Manypeaks men, who finished second on the ladder during the regular season but lost their semifinal against Spencer Park, dispatched North Albany 3-0 on September 13.

In the women’s competition, minor premiers Mt Barker overcame Spencer Park after one-on-ones when their contest finished 1-1 in normal time.

Peaks’ top striker Oliver Douglas put them ahead with Campbell Mayne and Mitch Bradbury finishing the job for a comfortable victory which was lauded by coach Ashton Mills.

“I think we allowed North Albany only two decent chances, so we completely locked them out of the game, and I was super happy about that,” he said.

“If we can play like that again in the grand final we will be in with half a chance.”

He praised the tireless running of forward Ryan Johnson and the poise of centre-half Hayden Henning.

Mt Barker won the one-on-one shuffles 3-2 to oust defending premiers Spencer Park.

Clare King had put Mt Barker ahead in the first half, but Park took off their goalkeeper with eight minutes remaining and the extra field player helped them force the equaliser.

In the men’s B-grade preliminary final, Griffins beat North Albany 3-2 with goals from Neil Ferreira, Matthew Ferreira and Nathan Crosby to set up a grand final against Manypeaks.

The women’s B-grade preliminary final went the way of Spencer Park Dark who beat Griffins 1-0 thanks to a goal from Dinah Gordon.

Dark now meet club rivals Spencer Park Light in Saturday’s decider.
