Expanded 100-bay car park at Albany Health Campus finally reaches completion, to relief of visitors and staff

Visitors, patients and staff at the Great Southern’s largest hospital will no longer be forced to park on the verge now that the $2 million expansion of the facility’s carpark has been completed. Minister for Health Infrastructure John Carey announced on Friday that construction of the 100-bay carpark at Albany Health Campus had finished. “It’s great to see this important project for the Albany community reach practical completion, making the hospital more accessible for patients, families and staff,” he said. “The project has significantly expanded carpark capacity, and also includes upgraded lighting and CCTV to support staff and patient safety when accessing hospital services. “Our government is delivering massive projects as part of our $4.9 billion health infrastructure spend, while also ensuring smaller, but still critically important, works like this expansion are progressed.” Construction on the carpark at the Spencer Park facility began in February, with Devlyn Construction appointed as the managing contractor. The project marks the fulfilment of an election promise made by former Albany MLA Rebecca Stephens in 2021, following the constant overflow resulting from the limited bays at the site previously. The $2m works — which includes new wayfinding, safety bollards, pathways and crosswalks, as well as CCTV and security lighting — was funded as part of the 2023-24 State budget. Health Minister Meredith Hammat said the carpark expansion was a vital upgrade before construction of a 32-bed modular ward begins. “Albany Health Campus is undergoing some exciting changes to ensure the hospital continues to meet the needs of the community now and into the future,” she said. “This important and timely upgrade to the hospital’s car park comes ahead of a planned 32-bed modular ward build, significantly increasing capacity inside the facility. “It’s one of the many projects that form our record $4.9 billion health infrastructure investment, ensuring all Western Australians have access to the health care they need, when they need it.”
