Albany and Districts trio and Great Southern bowler part of winning Country Colts team at revised Country Cup

A talented Great Southern quartet have helped Country Colts claim title glory in this season’s Belt-Up Country Cup played in Geraldton. Collingwood Park trio O’Shea Durack, Buddy Robinson and Dash Germinario along with Kendenup’s Jared Ballard were part of the successful Country Colts side. With Albany and Districts among a host of teams that withdrew from the historic tournament, a revised T20 competition was played in the Mid West before many regional areas have commenced their new season. Country Colts were part of a six-team competition played over two days in Geraldton on October 4 and 5. Two qualifying games were played on Saturday and the final qualifier set down for Sunday morning was washed out, leaving Busselton-Margaret River and Country Colts as the two highest ranked teams. The pair faced off in the grand final at Wonthella Oval on Sunday afternoon, with Country Colts going on to claim a 21-run victory. Robinson capped a superb tournament with the top score for Country Colts with the bat while Ballard and Durack took wickets and Germinario snared two stumpings to help guide their side to victory. Batting at No.3, Robinson belted 32 from 19 balls, including six boundaries, to get his side off to a flier. Germinario was run out for 14 but a late cameo from Durack (29 runs from 28 balls) and Tyne Dodds (21 not out) helped County Colts reach 8-135. Ballard claimed the opening wicket in Busselton-Margaret River’s run chase, dismissing Justin Gilbert for five. Durack took the final wicket of the innings, when Germinario had the dangerous Thomas Coulson stumped on 39. Ballard finished with terrific figures of 1-11 from four overs while Durack took 1-11 from his sole over as they restricted their rivals to 9-115 from 20 overs to seal the cup triumph. In Saturday’s action, Robinson and Germinario combined for a wonderful 57-run stand in the opening game against WA Regional XI. Germinario was unbeaten on 45 from 35 balls while Robinson smacked six fours and two sixes in his rapid 44 from 25 deliveries. WA Regional XI chased down 191 to win with 11 balls to spare, Durack taking 1-30 from 3.1 overs. Country Colts bounced back in their second game with a crushing six-wicket win over Geraldton. Ballard took the only wicket in the Geraldton innings, with stellar figures of 1-11 from four overs as his side were set 107 to win. Robinson blasted 40 not out from 23 balls and Durack was unbeaten on 20 as their side cruised past the total in the 15th over.
