STM Loves: Perth Symphony Orchestra series, Personal Colour, bobby, Miss Mi & Fry’d

bobby
Tomorrow it will officially be spring, the weather is warming up and we have just discovered what could be our drink of the summer. On a lunchtime trip to The Herdsman Market, the STM team stumbled on bobby — an all-natural, low-sugar, low-calorie soft drink. Usually sceptical of so-called “healthy” drinks, we were pleasantly surprised. Flavours include cola (our current favourite), strawberries and cream, passion fruit, ginger beer, lemon lime, berry, grape and the list goes on. There’s nearly 100 stockists in WA including Epoch Cafe (Perth), The Orange Box (North Freo), Alleycats Espresso (Hillarys) and Wild at Heart Cafe (Pemberton).
Richard Walley x PSO
The latest chapter of Perth Symphony Orchestra’s WA Stories series will take guests on an immersive musical performance celebrating respected cultural legend Richard Walley. Held beneath Otto the blue whale at WA Museum Boola Bardip, the Noongar elder and State living treasure, artist, musician and storyteller will share his life story on stage, with his children and long-time friend and composer Iain Grandage. The performance, on September 5 and 6, will blend chamber music, Noongar songs, original compositions, spoken word and archival imagery. See perthsymphony.com.

Perth International Burlesque Festival
This saucy, sassy, shimmering show is heading to the city and Geraldton, with global and local acts taking part. Headliners this year include Honey Bee Rose from Chicago, Briefs Factory’s Dale Woodbridge-Brown and Australia’s Evana De Lune. The line-up starts with a charity show benefitting Black Rainbow on October 3 and a regional roadshow in Geraldton on October 11, before the festival kicks off in Perth on October 17-18. See perthburlesquefestival.com.

Miss Mi x Fry’d
In a combination described as “culinary creativity meets nostalgic indulgence” Miss Mi restaurant is teaming up with dessert specialists Fry’d to offer a limited-edition fried ice-cream in September. The two flavours — Szechuan caramel and vanilla with coconut — will be available during Miss Mi’s dinner service from September 1. For details see missmiperth.com.au.

Personal Colour
For anyone who has been asked: “Have you got your colours done?” or “What season are your colours?” and looked back in bemusement, this book is for you. Anuschka Rees has created a comprehensive guide to identifying the colour palette that most suits your complexion, with step-by-step instructions, 200 images of colour swatches and models of all races, genders and ages. Find it at your local bookstore for $40 — try and shop independent if you can to support local business-owners.
