Meghan Markle has shared new photos of her children as they joined her on the set of her Netflix series, With Love, Meghan.

On September 1, the Duchess of Sussex, 44, shared the first photos of Prince Archie, 6, and Princess Lilibet, 4, visiting the production, giving followers a behind-the-scenes look into their time together.

“Filming season two of ‘With Love, Meghan’ was more fun than you can imagine. Part of how we kept the vibe alive? Music,” Meghan wrote in her post, which featured a photo montage and a playlist of songs she played on set.

“Between set ups I would play a song from my phone, and today I wanted to share some of the favourites I kept on rotation! Add them to your playlist, press shuffle, and enjoy! Happy Labor Day weekend!”

“Work hard, play hard,” she added.

The photos included sweet moments of Archie and Lilibet enjoying the set, with their striking red hair, just like their father, Prince Harry, on show as they watched their mum at work.

Meghan previously told People she filmed the series, which premiered its second season on August 26, at a rental close to their Montecito home, explaining her aim to “protect that safe haven.”

Other snapshots show Princess Lilibet spinning in a director’s chair, Meghan’s friend and makeup artist Daniel Martin opening the door, and Prince Harry pictured with Meghan and chef Clare Smyth.

Archie appeared in a final family shot, calling “cut” with a director’s clapperboard.

Meghan spoke warmly about having her kids on set: “Archie did the (filming clapboard)! Sweet moments.”

She added, “They would also come with my husband and visit me on-set, and I loved that my children were able to watch me working and see the balance of that and understand what Mama does and is working to create and share. It was really special because up until then, they hadn’t seen me at work.”

A crew member recalled to People, “She was super attentive and doting on them. We would give them headphones so they could listen to audio.” Meghan herself reflected, “I hope that when they get old enough, they feel really proud that they were part of the beginning of this with me.”

It comes as Prince Harry and Meghan extend their high-profile production deal with Netflix.

The new agreement is a downgrade from the lucrative deal the former working royals inked with the streamer in 2020, reportedly worth $US100 ($152 million). According to the New York Times, the extension is worth less.

The previous contract tied the Sussexes to Netflix exclusively with a commitment to produce documentaries, features, scripted projects and children’s series. The new agreement is only a “first-look deal”, which means Netflix gets first pass at any Sussex pitches.

Under the former contract with the Sussexes’ production banner, Archewell, the only proper success was the docuseries Harry & Meghan, a six-parter which detailed the couple’s experiences in the British royal family and their controversial exit and move to North America.

Other projects have included three documentaries – one about the Invictus games, one about the game of polo, and another about leadership. An in-development animated series called Pearl was cancelled before production, swept up in the wave of cost-cutting, including to Netflix’s animation unit, in the fallout over its 2022 subscriber loss.

More recently, Netflix released Markle’s aspirational lifestyle show, With Love, Meghan, in which she invites friends and celebrities to her home (but actually a set) for cooking and entertaining segments.

As part of With Love, Meghan, the former actor and the streamer, became business partners on a line of products associated with the series, including Napa Valley rose, crepe mix, edible flower sprinkles and condiments.

The series had 5.3 million views, which is low compared to the Harry & Meghan docuseries and Netflix’s most successful originals, but is respectable for a lifestyle and cooking title. A second season had already been filmed before the release of the first.

There is also a Christmas special due in December.
