Telethon
Saturday, 7pm, Seven and 7Plus
Last year, Telethon raised a whopping $90 million-plus for charity, eclipsing previous fundraising efforts and setting a new benchmark for charitable giving.
This year, Perth’s annual 26-hour charity event, which has been a much-loved part of the State’s TV calendar for 58 years, is hoping to get that tally up once more — and organisers are going all out.
Jessica Mauboy will kick things off with a live performance at RAC Arena at 7pm, with Reece Mastin, The Ten Tenors and new Australian Idol judge Morgan Evans also on hand.
The live telecast, which runs from 7pm on Saturday to 8.40pm on Sunday, never fails to entertain — you never quite know what’s going to happen, which is entirely its charm.
This year, viewers can expect new segments and challenges, and the return of some old favourites, including cameos from the beloved pie thrower (who doesn’t love seeing a celeb cop a pie in the face?), and lip sync battles with Channel Seven identities including Matt Shirvington, Home And Away’s Kyle Shilling, and Sunrise’s Nat Barr.
Telethon’s always unhinged, always hilarious late-night Slumber Party will be serving up mayhem from 2am-7am, helmed by Famous Sharron and her willing assistant Ben O’Shea. This is where things get REALLY weird, so if you’re a night owl, mark your diary.
The event finishes off with the presentation of a new car, with Shane Crawford and Sunrise’s Katie Brown cruising the freeway in search of the competition’s lucky winner.
Get your wallets ready, Perth — this TV institution needs you to dig deep for the kids.
