Excitement is building ahead of Bluey’s special feature-length episode — and fans may have even more reason to smile, with news it might be a precursor to a movie.

For real life!

The show’s executive producer, Daley Pearson, shared the news with listeners of ABC Brisbane.

“We would love to do a Bluey movie,” he told the show’s host.

“It’s no secret that this episode is kind of testing how an audience will go.

“There was an element of, ‘Can an audience watch Bluey for longer?’

“I think we’ll wait until Sunday to find out and that’ll help us figure out our own future.”

Speculation as to the show’s future has been rife ever since last Sunday’s episode aired, which showed a ‘For Sale’ sign outside the Heeler’s iconic Queenslander, prompting fans to speculate that this weekend’s special episode may be the show’s last.

Bluey’s 28-minute ep will see a Heeler wedding take place...and it looks like Rad and Frisky tie the knot!

The show’s creator, Joe Brumm, has so far refused to confirm either way, but he echoed Pearson’s sentiments in a recent interview with US publication Deadline, saying “I’m very interested to see how The Sign goes down with the audience.

“Obviously it’s four times as long as a normal episode.

“Will the audience accept a stint with a longer story?”

Bluey’s longer-than-usual episode, which will see a wedding take place at the Heeler house, boasts a host of famous faces, who return to reprise their roles, including Patrick Brammall as Uncle Rad, Megan Washington as Calypso (she also performs a song in the episode), Claudia O’Doherty as Frisky, Myf Warhurst as Trixie and Rose Byrne as Brandy.

Rove McManus, Deborah Mailman, Brendan Williams and Joel Edgerton also join the show, voicing new characters.

Bluey’s special 28-minute episode, The Sign, screens Sunday April 14 at 8am on ABC Kids.
