A heartbreaking link between two Bondi Rescue stars’ tragic deaths has emerged just days after lifeguard Matt Dee’s passing.
The unexpected news of Mr Dee’s passing was announced on social media on Wednesday, with tributes pouring in from across the country.
On Friday, fellow lifeguard Daniel McLaughlin — known as Beardy on the TV show — revealed Mr Dee died exactly four years to the day after beloved Bondi Rescue star, Terry McDermott.
Mr McDermott — who was a favourite on the hit TV show Bondi Rescue from 2009 to 2013 — died on September 1, 2022 following a battle with prostate cancer.
“4 years to the day. Two absolute characters reunited, I’m sure the laughs have already started. Rest easy, my friends 💙,” Mr McLaughlin’s Instagram post read.
Fans of the show flooded the comments in disbelief over the link following the revelation.
“You mean Matt passed away the exact same day as terry just 4 yrs later? So crazy right. The world will miss them both,” one follower said.
“Beyond heartbroken for the Bondi team❤️🩹,” another said.
While one commented: “Both gone way before their time… We miss you Matt and Terry (even though i only knew you through the tv-program).”
Friends and family of Mr Dee are now rallying together to cover the unexpected funeral costs, launching a GoFundMe to help give him “the farewell he deserves”.
“A GoFundMe has been set up to help cover the unexpected funeral and farewell expenses following the heartbreaking loss of Matt Dee,” the fundraiser stated.
“Any contribution, no matter how big or small, would mean so much during this incredibly difficult time. If you’re unable to donate, simply sharing this post would also be deeply appreciated.”
The GoFundMe states any money donated after the $18,000 target has been reached, will be donated to Australian mental health services.
The organisers thanked supporters for their “love, support, kindness and consistent tributes”.
Mr Dee’s cause of death remains unknown.
