Ore processing at Mt Gibson Iron’s Koolan Island mine off the Kimberley coast has been halted after a fire ripped through its screening plant on Friday afternoon. Shares in the Chinese-back company were placed in a trading halt late on Friday pending an update from the company expected on Tuesday. A Mt Gibson spokesman said all personnel were safe and well and the fire was brought under control and put out by the site’s emergency response team. “We are obviously assessing the damage to the screening circuit,” he said. “Other site activities, including mining, are not directly affected and are continuing. “As indicated in our request for a trading halt, we will provide a more detailed update as soon as we are in a position to do so.” Its shares last changed hands for 51¢.
