Bunnings launches PowerPass Pro Rewards with fuel discounts, store credits and Qantas Points for tradies

Bunnings has launched a new trade loyalty program offering fuel discounts, store credits and access to Qantas Points, as major retailers compete more aggressively for business customers. The retailer said the new PowerPass Pro Rewards scheme was the biggest overhaul of its PowerPass program since 2011, with the tiered model launching across Australia and New Zealand for tradies and small to medium-sized businesses. Under the program, eligible members can earn Pro Rewards Dollars to spend at Bunnings, access fuel discounts through Shell Card Lite and receive partner offers and business tools. Members who spend $2000 receive $100 in Pro Rewards Dollars, followed by a further $50 for every additional $1000 spent. Some benefits are tied to higher spending thresholds. Members who reach the Elite, Ultimate and Black tiers can earn Qantas Points through an existing Qantas Business Rewards membership. Bunnings managing director Mike Schneider said the retailer had reshaped the program after hearing customers wanted more than a discount at the register. “PowerPass Pro Rewards is about delivering greater value for our customers today, while creating a platform that allows us to better support them into the future,” Mr Schneider said. “We’ve listened closely to our customers, who told us they wanted more than a discount at the register – they wanted to be recognised for their loyalty and rewarded in ways that genuinely support their business.” He said the program was intended to give customers more value beyond the job site. “With fuel discounts, travel rewards, Pro Rewards Dollars and benefits that grow over time, the program will help customers unlock more value from every dollar they spend and use it well beyond the job site,” Mr Schneider said. The new scheme includes six membership tiers, Member, Essential, Plus, Elite, Ultimate and Black, with benefits increasing as annual spending rises. Bunnings said the rollout would also include new digital features in the PowerPass app, allowing members to track their progress and rewards in real time. Qantas Loyalty and Customer chief executive Andrew Glance said construction, repair and maintenance businesses were already among the most engaged users of Qantas Business Rewards. They earn 30 per cent more Qantas Points on average, generating most of these points on the ground with other partners. “Our member base is incredibly diverse, ranging from tech start-ups to family-owned construction companies, all looking for ways to reduce their operating costs,” he said. “We expect most business members will use the points earned at Bunnings to offset future travel costs, or to reward their hardworking employees,” Glance said. In addition to Bunnings, launch partners in the program include Shell Card and Qantas Business Rewards, with other named partners including Commonwealth Bank, Ultra Tune, Zeller, Beaumont Tiles, InstantScripts, PointsBuild and MYOB. To mark the launch, Bunnings will hold a PowerPass Pro Challenge event at Bunnings Alexandria in Sydney on Saturday, July 25. About 60 participants are expected to compete in a series of practical heats for the chance to win one of three fuel voucher prizes valued at $10,000 each and a share of 900,000 Qantas Points. The event includes challenges such as a Scan & Go Sprint, a toolbox and power tools test, a paint race, a Qantas travel challenge and a Shell Card obstacle course. Participants will be progressively eliminated before a final head-to-head round.
