Sasha Glasgow says the chance to continue her development as a goal attack and push for a future Australian berth was behind her decision to sign with West Coast Fever for next season.

The 22-year-old has filled the final spot on Fever’s roster for 2021, crossing as a free agent from the Adelaide Thunderbirds after four years.

Glasgow is one of the brightest shooters in Australia and was named in the 2020-21 Australian development squad alongside new teammates Alice Teague-Neeld and Olivia Lewis earlier this month.

She said the chance to play under Australian coach Stacey Marinkovich, as well as learning from Teague-Neeld and star shooter Jhaniele Fowler swayed her decision to head west.

“I was looking for new opportunities... when I spoke to Stacey, she had a great approach for my netball and where she wants to take it,” Glasgow said.

“I am an Australian athlete and I do want to push for Diamonds one day, so to be coached under her and then obviously be coached by her in the future for Australia as well, I think it’s a great opportunity for me to develop my netball.

“It is really important for me to start developing a lot of my goal-attack game. I’m obviously really comfortable at the goal shooter position, but I really want to work on my fitness... I’m really excited to get to work with the best goal shooter in the world.

“I think the next year of my netball definitely had to be in Perth for me to grow as a netballer and a person.”

While Glasgow could only sign for a one year, she said the move west was for the long-term, as she looked to help Fever claim their maiden national title.

“I watched the girl’s nice and closely (in the grand final) and was disappointed that they didn’t get the win, so hopefully next year we do go all the way,” she said.

“I am moving with my partner and we’re looking to hopefully putting down some roots in Perth, not just for the year, but for the future.

“At the moment it’s just 2021 and hoping to stand out on the court for Fever.”

Glasgow was confident she could quickly adapt to Fever’s game style and connect with Fowler in attack.

“I always find that I’m someone who likes to adapt to someone else’s style of game,” she said.

“Where they need me and what capacity they need me in, whether it’s supporting, whether it’s impact player or whether it’s being on the court, I am just really excited for developing new aspects of my game.”

Glasgow will link up with the team in December for the start of pre-season training.
