John Millman and James Duckworth have both fought back from a set down to win their opening round matches at the ATP Tour's Kremlin Cup.

Millman progressed on his debut in Moscow with a 6-7 (5-7) 6-4 6-3 against France's Benjamin Bonzi, who is ranked just one spot lower than the world No.62 Australian.

Millman's countryman James Duckworth overcame Croatian qualifier Borna Gojo 3-6 7-5 6-2.

The 32-year-old Millman will face fifth-seeded Alexander Bublik or Ukrainian qualifier Illya Marchenko in the second round while Duckworth faces an even sterner test against Karen Khachanov, the third seed.

In other action, Marin Cilic began his bid for a third Kremlin Cup title by overcoming Damir Dzumhur in three sets.

Cilic, who won the tournament in 2014 and 2015, won 12 of the last 13 games after losing a first-set tiebreaker against Bosnian qualifier Dzumhur to triumph 6-7 (4-7) 6-1 6-1.

"In the second set I found a better rhythm and started to play great tennis and then the third set was really high quality and I could not be happier," Croatian sixth seed Cilic said in his on-court interview.
