Gold Coast captain Jamal Fogarty believes his side took a casual approach to their round-six loss against Manly, saying no spot in the side is safe if their mindset doesn't change.

The Titans were romped by Tom Trbojevic and a rampaging Sea Eagles outfit on Saturday, beaten 36-0 in Mudgee.

Fogarty said in their preparation Trbjoevic was the target man, but their recent run of results most likely caused his side to think it would be a foregone result.

"We probably just thought it was going to happen, I guess not getting ahead of ourselves, but thinking we came off a good win last week, things are just going to work again without trying to put in the hard work," Fogarty said on the loss.

"That was the part that was missing so I think it's a good reality check for us, especially coming up against Souths this week.

"That's part of rugby league, obviously, you either win or you learn and on the weekend we definitely learned something about ourselves.

"We got to put in the hard work during the week and we've got to roll out game day and make things happen, we can't just think that things are going to happen easily for us."

Titans coach Justin Holbrook was scathing in his assessment of Sunday's loss, with Fogarty saying the coach didn't miss in his verdict of their performance.

The halfback also hasn't ruled out the coach wielding the axe if players continue to underperform, as accountability is something Holbrook has stressed all year.

"We have great depth at the club now and we all know that the coach isn't afraid to drop people.

"For the 17 playing each week it's making sure we're doing our job, making sure we're executing it, to make sure we're being picked.

"There are guys behind us that will take our jersey and we probably won't get it back off them if we give them a chance.

"So for us it's about trying to get rid of that (complacency) and making sure we're earning our jersey every week."
