Jack Bird's contract saga is finally over with the St George Illawarra star signing a new two-year deal to stay with the NRL club.

Bird finally put pen to paper on the new contract on Monday afternoon, keeping him at the club until the end of 2024.

It's believed the deal also includes a mutual option for the two parties to extend on the same terms for the 2025 season, giving Bird the third year he wanted.

The former NSW State of Origin representative had long remained one of the biggest names on the open market for next season.

Originally signed by the Dragons in 2020, the back-rower had attracted interest from both Parramatta and Wests Tigers for next season.

But while he at one stage claimed the Dragons had pulled an offer off the table during the summer, Bird had always appeared likely to stay with his junior club.

"St George Illawarra is where I first started my career and I'm proud to remain a Dragon," Bird said.

"The club gave me the chance to come back and play first grade after all the injuries I faced earlier in my career.

"It has been an opportunity I'm grateful for and one that I have enjoyed over the past 18 months particularly with the support of my family and friends close by."
