Need a job? Well, WA footy needs you. Now.

Optus Stadium could host the biggest crowd the Southern Hemisphere has seen since COVID-19, with up to 55,000 footy fans expected for tomorrow night’s clash between West Coast and Collingwood.

But Premier Mark McGowan’s decision to lift COVID capacity restrictions has left Optus scrambling to find workers to meet the needs of a crowd that big, and stadium CEO Mike McKenna told The West Live he needed to fill hundreds of job vacancies ASAP.

“We have a roster of about 1500 people for this game,” Mr McKenna said.

“We’re a couple of hundred short at the moment, and we’re making phone calls to people who have worked for us before, we’re recruiting flat out, so anybody who’d like to work at the stadium, and that could be in customer service, greeting people at the gate or at the top of aisles, working in any of our food and beverage outlets, or premium hospitality spaces, or if they’re a chef or just moving beer kegs around the venue.

“Anybody who wants to work, we’re looking to recruit.”

And, who knows, if you get one of these jobs at Optus, you just might end up serving a beer to Prime Minister Scott Morrison, who’ll be attending the Eagles game as part of his visit to WA.

“All the people who come to Optus Stadium are VIPs (to us), and I’m sure the Prime Minister will be treated like all the other guests in the premium hospitality spaces,” Mr McKenna said.

If you do happen to secure one of the jobs going at Optus, you can expect to have a busy night, with a crowd of more than 50,000 fans typically going through 70,000 beers, 7500 Mrs Macs meat pies, 6000 burgers and 14,500 cups of hot chips.

RAC Arena is also on a recruiting drive, with up to 13,000 expected at the Arena to watch the Wildcats play Illawarra Hawks tomorrow night.

When touring events restart, Optus will need to find 600 workers and the Arena will need to fill 100 positions.
