Test star Marnus Labuschagne was out short of a century but teammate Bryce Street made no mistake as the runs continued to pile up in the Sheffield Shield match between Queensland and Western Australia at the Gabba.

At stumps on day three, the Bulls were 5-453 in response to WA's first innings 5(dec)-458, with Matthew Renshaw (69) and Jack Wildermuth (18) the not out batsmen.

Labuschagne was dismissed for 92 when he edged a Joel Paris ball to midwicket, Liam Guthrie pouching the catch to leave the prolific Queenslander shy of a 17th first-class century.

Street (117) went on with the job however, mostly watchful, but punishing the loose deliveries in his 335-ball innings.

"I guess that has always been the strength of my game in first-class cricket, just trying to outlast bowlers," Street said with a laugh when congratulated on a patient knock.

"It was nice for it to come off today after probably what has been a lean season for me."

He was eventually out hooking in the deep, caught spectacularly by a diving Guthrie off the bowling of Cameron Gannon (2-57).

Former Test batsman Usman Khawaja made 42 and Jimmy Peirson pitched in with 57 with the match seemingly headed for a tame draw.

But with up to 101 overs to be bowled on Tuesday, man of the moment Street felt the possibility of a result remained.

Guthrie, Paris, and Jake Carder each took a wicket for WA.

Cameron Green has been used sparingly, finishing the day with 0-21 from eight overs.

In what has so far been a free-scoring match, Green (251) on Sunday scored his first Shield double century.

He briefly moved to top of the competition's run-scorers, only to be overtaken by South Australia's Travis Head on Monday.
