Perth Lynx are prepared to wait for answers from star pair Sami Whitcomb and Katie Ebzery as they hone in on the final positions on their roster.

The Lynx re-signed talented youngster Emma Clarke this week to leave them with only four vacancies on their list.

Whitcomb signed to play for Perth last season but opted out of joining the Queensland hub to remain at home for the birth of her son. The dual WNBA championship winner will start the next chapter of her career on Saturday when she debuts for New York Liberty.

Ebzery has re-located to Sydney to prepare for the Olympics and the Lynx captain is yet to make a decision about her future.

Lynx General Manager Brent Dawkins said the pair wouldn’t be rushed.

“I’ve been speaking to their managers and it’s a waiting game,” Dawkins said.

“We’d definitely love to have Sami. Whether that happens or whether she has offers from other parts of the world we will have to wait and see. She’s definitely in the mix.

“Katie has the Olympics to concentrate on and she’ll decide her future after that.

“There will come a time when we have to make a move one way or the other, but we don’t want to put pressure on.”

The Lynx have already retained Darcee Garbin, Alex Sharp, Ash Isenbarger and Clarke, while championship winning centre Lauren Scherf has joined the club. The Lynx will also sign a youngster to an amateur contract.

The WNBL introduced a salary cap this week with teams allowed to spend up to $420,000. Clubs must spend at least $336,000, and they have the option to exceed the cap and pay a luxury tax.

“We’ll be a middle of the rung team for spending,” Dawkins said.

“We’re definitely not going to be at the top of the tree but we will be comfortably above the minimum of the cap. We have money left in the cap to get two Australians of high quality.”

Perth are determined to consistently sign as many West Australians as possible and will shortly launch an Academy for 15-22 year olds to build relationships and develop the next wave of local talent.
