“There are few words that we can express at this time, other than to convey our sadness and sincerest condolences to the Barclay family,” Ms Livingstone said.

“Jacinda’s loss will be taken very hard by so many people within our game across all levels.

“On behalf of the AFL, I would like to express my deepest compassion to the Barclay family, friends and colleagues.”

Barclay also represented Australia at five baseball world cups, having made her international debut at just 17 and won silver at the 2010 event, before turning her attention to American football, leading her to live and compete in the USA between 2012 and 2016.

She represented the NSW Surge in the LFL before heading to the Chicago Bliss to play in the America’s Legends Football League, where she won a championship in her first season.

Barclay returned to Australia to play in the AFLW, a sport she had a passion for a as a child before she turned her attention to baseball.
