AFLW Dockers star Ebony Antonio takes swipe at AFL hierarchy after decision to can AFLW season

Fremantle AFLW utility Ebony Antonio has hit out at the AFL Commission, moments after it was determined no premiership would be awarded in this year’s now-cancelled AFLW season.

The Dockers star tweeted “no leadership” after AFL boss Gillon McLachlan confirmed the AFLW season would not go on, while the AFL season will be halted until at least June due to the coronavirus crisis affecting the world.

The undefeated Dockers were set to take on Melbourne in the preliminary final next weekend.

The Dockers were favourites to claim the premiership — the club’s historic first for both men and women — having smashed Gold Coast by 70 points in yesterday’s semifinal.

AFL chief executive officer Gill McLachlan confirmed today’s AFLW game between Brisbane and Carlton would be the last of the season.

“Given the twin conference structure and that the finals series was not completed, the AFL Commission has determined no premiership will be awarded for this season, following a recommendation from the AFL Executive,” he said.
