Brownlow Medallist Ollie Wines has lashed out in a fiery attack on cross-town rivals Adelaide, lighting the fuse before his Port side hosts Saturday night’s Showdown.

The clash will serve as a farewell game for Robbie Gray, one of the Power’s greatest ever players, but Wines added another layer again on Thursday when he labelled the Crows as entitled and questioned their “DNA”.

“There are certain things about that football club I don’t like and I’m sure there are certain things about our football club they don’t like,” he told 7NEWS.

“I think it is just the DNA of the club and what they’re about, the sense of entitlement that they sort of have.

“I’m proud of my football club and we are going to be doing everything we can to knock them off.”

The Game AFL 2024

Despite Wines’ distaste, the Crows still hold Showdown bragging rights for the time being, after a late Jordan Dawson goal in front of a feverish home crowd handed the Power a Round 3 defeat. It came as part of Port’s five-game losing run to start the season.

“Certainly there is a lot on the line, they broke our hearts this year with that kick after the siren to beat us,” Wines said.

“It is a mini-final, we are both not playing finals, so this is our season really on the line.”

Gray announced his retirement earlier this week, calling time on a 270-game career which includes five Showdown Medals.

Neither side has been in the finals reckonings for weeks, but a victory on Saturday night would mean the Crows finish the year with four-consecutive wins, while Port Adelaide ran a miserable Essendon side into the ground on Sunday afternoon.

At least one Power player will come out of the side that beat the Bombers, with Gray locked in to return for his final game after missing the previous week.
