Prominent player agent Paul Connors has been whacked with a $7500 fine for running a training camp for draft hopefuls last month that has now been ruled against the AFL’s player managers' guidelines.

$2500 of Connors fine was suspended after top prospects for the 2020 and 2021 draft ascended on the Mornington Peninsula for a two-day camp run by Connors Sport with AFL scouts in attendance.

Many of the players in attendance were committed to Connors’ agency, including highly touted youngster Jamarra Ugle-Hagan, but the participation of unsigned prospects is what caused the breach

“It was an oversight on my behalf”, Connors told AFL media after accepting the fine.

“We simply wanted to provide an opportunity for kids in a season where they haven’t been able to play and which has been very difficult for obvious reasons.

“We were coming from a good place, it wasn’t done maliciously, and we accept the finding.”

Connors was found to be in breach of Clause 4.1 of the Agents' Code of Conduct, which prohibits an agent from providing a benefit or other thing of value to a Player in anticipation of the Player signing a Standard Player Agent Agreement.

Agents can approach players from the top-age year of under-16s from October 1.
