A man has been taken to Royal Perth Hospital after a three-hour stand-off where he refused to get down from a Victoria Park bus shelter.

The incident caused traffic chaos in Perth's south-east near Shepparton Road.

Emergency services and police were called to the area near the Causeway around 12.30pm to try to talk the man down.

Shocked office workers filmed the dramatic event, with witnesses saying they heard the man screaming "help me" before he climbed up on the structure.

A crane was called to bring him down and police finally managed to convince him to get inside.
