Herdsman crash: Driver seriously injured after car hits tree, bursts into flames on Jon Sanders Drive

Police pulled an injured driver from a burning car after his vehicle smashed into a tree in the early hours of Monday.

Officers are investigating the fiery crash in Herdsman which happened on Jon Sanders Drive approximately 500m south of Parkland Road just after 2am.

A police spokeswoman said the silver Toyota Camry sedan — driven by a 23-year-old man — left the road and hit a tree before it caught fire.

“The driver was trapped in the vehicle which caught fire,” she said.

“Officers from Scarborough Police were first on the scene and extracted the driver.”

Firefighters, who arrived a short time later, managed to extinguish the blaze.

The driver was rushed to Royal Perth Hospital with serious injuries.

Officers from road policing group north are investigating the incident and urge anyone with information, including anyone who saw the car in the area before the crash, to contact crime stoppers on 1800 333 000 or online.
