The top dogs of the competition, the Yardgee Dockers, have had to tuck tail after a 10-point loss to the fourth team on the ladder, the Kururrungku Roos, in a preliminary final upset.

The Kururrungku Roos got off to a slow start and it looked like it may be an easy win for the Dockers at the quarter-time siren.

The Roos scored three goals, finishing the term on 18 points while the Yardgee side scored five goals and a behind, ending the term with 31 points.

But the Roos mounted a successful counter-attack in the second quarter, slotting four goals and five behinds, while the Dockers’ accuracy let them down at the goals, slotting just one goal and three behinds, 7.5 (47) to 6.4 (40).

The Roos struck back with improved accuracy in the final term, slotting four of their five shots at goal while the Dockers struggled to make their opportunities count, kicking one goal and three behinds, the Roos running out 11.12 (78) to 10.8 (68) winners.

The Kururrungku Roos now move on to play the grand final on August 20 against the Halls Creek Hawks, who sit second on the ladder.
