As the rollercoaster of 2020 nears its close, a time to celebrate begins — Bunbury PrideFEST.

“Celebrate” is the theme of this year’s Pride WA festival, with Bunbury’s own festivities set to begin on Sunday.

OUT South West has organised a series of free mini events throughout the week and will host a PrideFEST picnic at Koombana Beach on Sunday. Co-chair Cassandra Hymers said the event was open to people of all ages and genders.

“We had to do mini events because of COVID, but all family and friends are welcome to join the celebrations,” she said.

It’s about a celebration of diversity and can help people to open their horizons.

Event organiser Nicky Sheldrick said Bunbury PrideFEST provided an opportunity to meet like-minded people and find a new and welcoming community.

“It’s important for people to find a safe community in Bunbury to express themselves, and PrideFEST can help give them that,” she said.

Bunbury PrideFEST celebrations will include a drag queen story time session on Thursday at Maker and Co, a party at Waters Edge on Friday, both of which are for participants 18 and older, and an all-ages roller party at The Rink on Sunday.
