The Bunbury and Districts Powerboat Club will host its Fishing Club Classic on the weekend to encourage the community to get involved with the sport.

The club will see anglers of all ages come down to cast their lines to win prizes in the Fishing Class, Kayak Class, Diving Class or Juniors Class.

Former AFL players Paul Haselby and Mark LeCras will come down for the comp to help out with the awards ceremony and join in the fishing fun.

Bunbury and Districts Powerboat Club committee member Luke Mott said the competition was for the community to have fun and get involved with fishing.

“It’s about people getting together that like the same thing,” he said.

“It’s not a too serious event, we just like having a laugh.

The not-for-profit group is run by volunteers and holds competitions each month, as well as four big contests a year.

There will also be a fundraising auction on the night.

Mr Mott encouraged new members to come along and take part.

“The more the merrier,” he said.

Those interested in participating can register on Friday at the Bunbury Power Boat Club.
