The City of Bunbury’s Youth Week activities continued this week, with kids jumping in to an Amazing Race-inspired challenge around the streets of the Bunbury CBD.

More than 60 school kids made the most of their school holidays and met at Council Gardens to start the event, which then took them to Bunbury sites including Rocky Point, up and down the Marlston Hill Lookout and businesses like Melo Velo, Collins Bookstore and the Green Depot, where they were required to complete special challenges in teams.

“I was blown away by the response from the kids and the parents that were involved, they all looked like they had a really, really fun day,” Happy When Fit founder Danae Cornford said.

Each station involved a different activity for the participants, which ranged from solving riddles or answering questions, to counting stairs or, for some, singing a song. “I think what I love most about these things is they implement all the things Happy When Fit is about,” Ms Cornford said. “There is the mental health element because they were working together in groups and being mentally stimulated by the challenges and the social element, in getting to know people in the community.

“And they all would have done their 10,000 steps for the day and then we incorporated the nutrition element by putting on a healthy lunch for them, which was provided by the Bunbury Farmers Market.”
